We first noticed it when she started to call my mother by another name. We thought grandma was just having senior moments, you know those times that no matter how much you dug, you just couldn’t remember what you wanted to.
She was eighty-three years old, and had the energy of a bustling teenager. I wished she would have given me some of that energy, especially when my mom gave me chores to do.
Slowly it began, her memory began to be stuck in the present, not the years of the past. So what did my mom suggest before it got worse? That grandma make a list of the places that held so much meaning to her and we would go to them. We’ll then take a picture of her, and with a note attached, put it in a black box. We three went on a reminiscing journey.

memory loss is a scary thing.

It is. It is so sad. And it can become frustrating. Not like amnesia, where some gain their memories back, but to forget things forever,
Memories are treasures.

I agree. even the thought scares me.

My granny had dementia and it was sad – but this however is a very touching story and learning to live in the moment even if she wasn’t able to remember tomorrow, I’m sure she was happy in familiarity perhaps and the comfort of the present. What a gift.

Thanks for your comment.
It’s been awhile. Nice to hear from you again.
They took her back in a way and stored those memories by the pictures and notes they kept.
But once her memory is gone, it’ll be difficult for her to remember. Her daughter and granddaughter will have them; they shared in a way with her past.
And about your experience, yes it’s sad.

By the way, does each of your story title related with other stories’ title?
I mean, is Black Box “feed one” is the first in the chapter (isolated story), or there is prequel in other title?

No, A Black Box is Feed One. All stories are short except for the first one that started this blog. That one has sixteen parts.
Once you click on a story title from the category, it’ll take you directly to that story.
